Position Overview
Gulf Education is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head of Arabic & Islamic Studies to lead one of our client’s Arabic language education initiatives. This role will focus on enhancing Arabic literacy and fostering an appreciation for diverse cultures among students, aligning with the UAE National Agenda. The Head of Arabic & Islamic Studies will collaborate with the Ministry of Education and manage the Arabic teaching team to develop engaging lessons and promote high standards in teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Oversee the Arabic and Islamic Studies curriculum, ensuring it meets national standards and aligns with the school’s mission.
- Manage and mentor a team of Arabic teachers, fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement.
- Report directly to the principal and a designated board member regarding student outcomes and teaching quality.
Curriculum Development
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for both native and non-native Arabic speakers.
- Integrate Arabic language learning with other subjects, such as UAE Social Studies and the arts, to enhance interdisciplinary education.
- Ensure Islamic Studies is effectively delivered to all Muslim students.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Conduct diagnostic assessments at the beginning of the academic year and utilize external benchmarking to track student progress.
- Implement formative assessments (e.g., oral presentations, written assignments) and summative assessments to evaluate student development in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Create personalized learning plans for students as needed, utilizing digital platforms and resources.
Professional Development
- Facilitate continuous professional development opportunities for the Arabic teaching team through collaboration with other UAE schools, KHDA-approved training, and in-house workshops.
- Stay informed about best practices in Arabic language education and incorporate innovative teaching methods.
Governance and Reporting
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the Arabic language program is adequately resourced and aligned with strategic goals.
- Utilize data-driven decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of the Arabic program and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, Education, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in Arabic language or Islamic Studies, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of the UAE National Agenda and educational policies.
- Proven ability to develop engaging curriculum and assess student progress effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in education.
