Job Description

The MYP Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the implementation and delivery of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) at the school. This includes managing the curriculum, supporting teachers, ensuring alignment with IB standards, and fostering an inquiry-based learning environment. The coordinator will also facilitate communication between teachers, students, and parents while ensuring adherence to the goals of the MYP framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Implementation and Oversight:

    • Oversee the effective implementation of the MYP curriculum in alignment with the IB framework.
    • Ensure that MYP teaching practices adhere to IB standards and principles, providing guidance to teachers and staff on the best practices in inquiry-based learning.
    • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning across MYP subjects, providing support and feedback to teachers as needed.
  2. Curriculum Development and Planning:

    • Collaborate with subject teachers and department heads to develop and revise the MYP curriculum, ensuring it is aligned with IB expectations and best practices.
    • Coordinate the development of interdisciplinary units and projects, fostering collaboration among teachers in various subjects.
    • Ensure that MYP assessments are rigorous, fair, and aligned with IB standards.
  3. Teacher Support and Professional Development:

    • Provide professional development opportunities for MYP teachers to ensure they are well-versed in the IB framework and teaching strategies.
    • Mentor and support MYP teachers, helping them integrate IB philosophy into their teaching practices and classroom management.
    • Conduct regular meetings with MYP teachers to discuss curriculum development, teaching strategies, and student progress.
  4. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

    • Coordinate the MYP assessment process, ensuring that assessments are designed according to IB standards and are consistent across the program.
    • Monitor student progress and provide guidance to teachers in identifying students who may require additional academic support.
    • Organize and facilitate regular reporting to parents about students' progress in the MYP.
  5. Parent and Community Engagement:

    • Communicate effectively with parents, providing updates on the MYP program, student progress, and any changes in curriculum or assessment practices.
    • Organize parent workshops or informational sessions to educate the school community about the MYP framework and its benefits.
    • Foster a strong relationship with the wider school community to enhance student learning and well-being.
  6. Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensure that the school adheres to all IB guidelines, policies, and standards for the MYP.
    • Prepare and submit any necessary reports and documentation to the IB organization, ensuring the school remains in good standing with the IB.
    • Lead the self-study and evaluation process as part of the IB authorization or evaluation process.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Foster a collaborative culture among MYP teachers and other departments to promote a cohesive learning environment.
    • Work closely with the DP (Diploma Programme) Coordinator to ensure a smooth transition for students moving from MYP to DP.
    • Act as the main point of contact between the school and the International Baccalaureate organization for MYP-related matters.

Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
    • IB MYP or IB-related certification is preferred.
    • Previous experience teaching within the IB Middle Years Programme or in an international school setting is required.
    • Experience in curriculum development, teacher mentorship, and administrative duties is highly preferred.
    • IELTS 7.5
